Dudes, everyone who thinks Star Driver is a bog-standard mecha show that tries to ape Code Geass, think again.
It’s actually a SUPER ROBOT SHOW, not unlike Mazinger Z!
For everyone expecting FABULOUS MECHA action, I’d like to show you the following.
Dudes, seriously, Takuto/Tauburn SCREAMS his attacks out loud. That’s pretty super robot, if you ask me. ALSO!
Robot appearing out of nowhere? I may be grasping at straws here, but I guess this is pretty super robot too.
See that? That attitude’s pretty much in line with a super robot show!
Other indicators that Star Driver is a super robot show:
- Takuto gets challenged to fights, NOT UNLIKE THE MONSTER OF THE WEEK THINGS IN SUPER ROBOT SHOWS.
- Gratuitous mecha … … … porn. Yeah, the Cybercasket sequence is totally not unlike the GaoGaiGar transformation scene. Down to the hot-blooded “APPRIPROVISE!” and all.
- Tauburn’s CHESUTO BEEEEEEEEEEEAM (we’re still missing the rocket punching or DIS HAND OF MINE)
I think that nails it. Star Driver is a crazy throwback to the good ol’ days of SUPER ROBOOOOOOTS. Sadly, the OP is pretty meh.
Okay, crazy speculation notwithstanding, I was pretty surprised when Star Driver’s battles took a turn for the super. Takuto acting like a badass super robot pilot didn’t help, either.
Story so far? The words “rogue scientists”, “Lovecraft”, “Cthulhu” and “boats” come to mind. Hopefully they’ll start to make sense or-
JUST GIMME MORE TAUBURN KICKING ASS.
It’s ridiculous, it has a rather flimsy plot, and it has robots kicking the crap out of each other. It also has ridiculously hilarious moments outside of the robots kicking the crap out of each other.
How can this not be a good show?
