Angel Beats 11 [Orange Farm Archive]

Solve everything in one episode!

Angel Beats plot direction.

I have never been, and never will be a fan of the “solve everything in one episode” plot twist or direction.  Building complicated ends is an ardourous task, and then neatly ending them in a way that makes sense for the characters and has a common story direction is even more difficult.  It is the ultimate sign of good writing, and Angel Beats skipped over it completely.

Wishy-washy~

I still believe what I said last post about haters gonna hate and the plot having some serious artistic value.  The problem is I think the creators of Angel Beats just got bored.  Wrapping up the story and filling their financial-needs probably took priority, and it might not of otherwise if it was taken by another animation studio.  PA Works has this way of landing really good writers, potential filled plots, solid animation, then just completely drops the ball.  Angel Beats is feeling a lot like Canaan, in that regard.  I hope the plot isn’t just what we expected/uninteresting.  Because that’s exactly what happened with Nasu and Canaan.

Unexplained Backstory

I think I’ll need to finish (or start, really) Track Zero to understand the significance of what’s happening to the Angel Beat’s characters and get any fulfillment from what happens now.  It’s ashame such resources aren’t available to the American anime community (such as weekly supplemental manga and backstory); since I think the lack of aforementioned creates a lot of easy lol-plot twist and character belittlement.  It’s easy to criticize sudden decisions of undeveloped characters if you don’t really know them beforehand.

At times it can be very difficult to draw the line between art and entertainment.

At others it can be incredibly easy.

It finally hit me what bothers me about PA Works execution – the lack of build up and continuity.  The nice thing is, I think they realize it themselves.  Maybe something salvagable will come out of ending of this series.  This episode felt more rushed/forced than the one with Yui and Hinata in my opinion.

Never underestimate Maeda’s power to make you cry like a little girl.
