Summer 2009 Mk-II [Orange Farm Archive]

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, you didn’t see Darkslime coming with a whole second set of things to look forward to.

kaguya-computerlet’s all be NEETs~

First of all, something that’s already come out – the fifth installment of the Nico Nico Medley, titled Seven-Colored Nico Nico Douga. Yes, the fifth installment. Some explanation. The one we all know and love out here in the West is the second one, the Suite: see that ridiculous automatic Super Mario World video. The actual medleys are some guy making music out of 8-bit and other synths – any vocals you hear are people singing over it. The first installment wasn’t very good and was pretty much deprecated(if you’ll forgive me using a programming term) by the second one. The third one, Monogatari(or Story) was like 25 minutes long, which is the reason you won’t find anyone singing it… at least, no one sane. The fourth one is Ryuuseigun(Meteoric Swarm) which caught on a lot more. And just this morning, the fifth one came out.

Those of you with nicovideo accounts can listen to it here. Fortunately, almost every song in it is new to this one – they do a medley near the end that goes through about 20 of the most famous songs from the previous ones in about a minute and a half(see: Marisa Stole the Precious Thing, Endless Rain, I Can’t Defeat Airman, Okkusenman, Makka na Chikai, etc.). Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff is pop music which I’m not too familiar with. There was enough Kirby, Touhou, and others to let me recognize some of it anyway. It doesn’t look like it’s been uploaded to Youtube yet, unfortunately. :/

My mylist is here, if anyone’s interested – the English comments should explain what the videos are.

However, for any Japan-obsessed otaku, get familiar with the songs that are recurring in the medleys, haha. Here’s a working list of the songs used, and times they start at. Warning: I couldn’t make out a lot of things, and haven’t heard most of these songs, so if anyone knows the correct times, please say so. (spoilers):

Now for upcoming attractions! E3 is over, and Golden Sun DS was revealed. This isn’t coming out until 2010 – though, if any of you remember the DELAYS AFTER DELAYS for Golden Sun: The Lost Age, I wouldn’t bet money on it.

Past that, we have obviously Touhou UFO being released at Comiket 76 in August. The trial version is already out, and you can play the first three stages.

Personally, I hope he fixes a few things. He claimed it was easier than usual, but I get my ass handed to me on Normal mode sometimes. There’s also a weird thing in one of Kogasa’s spellcards that makes it like 10x harder if she moves the wrong way(she moves randomly around the screen). Other than that, wait for it!

On the subject of games, the newest Gundam G Generation game, G Generation Wars, is going to be released August 6th(the PS2 version, at least). It’ll be similar to Spirits, but will include all alternate universes. Yes, you heard correctly – every single animated Gundam will be in this game. Even Gundam 00, though only the first season. That is, if we go by what was listed in Famitsu… If you can see in the cover, Trans-Am 00 Raiser, which of course was only in season 2… so, who knows. I personally think they’re going to throw in units and characters from the second season, but not storyline.

Also in the realm of games, there are a couple of other things that have been long-anticipated. In the DS realm, Knights in the Nightmare was just released here in the States – it’s a SRPG with a unique tone, apparently. Also, Dragon Quest IX comes out in July – “Those who Defend the Stars” is the subtitle for this one. I’m still working on a sequential playthrough. I just beat DQIGB, so now it’s on to DQII.

Still no word on when Super Robot Gakuen will come out, I think. Enough with the silly side-games, give us Z2! (I couldn’t care less about OG3, lol)

And now back to anime news! The third season of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei has been announced and will be airing this summer. Titled “Zan – Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei”, what can we expect from our favorite suicidal teacher and class full of psychologically deficient girls this time!?

I haven’t read anything past the fourth volume, so this stuff will almost definitely be new for me… haha.

Other than that, and what Komidol listed, nothing of absolute importance, though it is worth noting that BONES is coming out with a new series this summer as well, titled Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. BONES’ stuff is almost always interesting, so I’m looking forward to checking it out.

Though it’s three years early, the hour of the apocalypse is soon to arrive. The amount of sheer win and awesome that will be making its way into the world this summer is incalculable.

Yeah, usually what happens is, a zillion people record their own videos of them singing it.

Then, some freaking genius with too much time on his hands takes a handful of the really good ones and puts it together in the avatar mishmash we all know and love. ;3
